MODERN INTERIOR DESIGN: SMOOTH, VIBRANT AND PLAYFUL

If you like clean and smooth spaces with a touch of playfulness, Modern interior design might be something you should look into. Though this style is called Modern, it is not a recent style because it was developed in the mid-20th century (feel old yet!). In case you were after a more recent interior design style and not the actual ambience of the Modern style, you should refer to Contemporary interior design style because it is the most recently developed interior design style.

Like we mentioned above, the Modern style emphasises on the simplicity and cleanliness by having carefully selected decoration and smooth lines which is influenced by the functional elements of both Bauhaus and Scandinavian styles. Not to mention, but Modern also has a strong influence of the minimalist style that is quite evident in its overall structure and color palettes which is often composed of neutral colours such as whites, creams, and beiges. However, unlike minimalist designs, the spaces also have a playful element like splashes of bright colours such as oranges, pinks, and turquoise on goods such as tableware, curtains, and carpets.

You can follow some tips to easily get the Modern outlook for your space:

1. Play around with elegant yet bold products to get a balanced space that is not too formal or informal. The products can be of a decent size to fit your relatively spacious and calm space.

2. Decorate with products that are relatively geometric and structural but clean and simple in nature (without much detailing or patterns) to maintain a minimalistic environment.

3. You can experiment with structures that have different orientations because Modern spaces do not have to be strictly symmetric or asymmetric.

4. Lighting is an important element, where it is important that you strike a balance between the amount of natural (from windows and roofs) and artificial (from lamps, fixtures, etc) light that fills the space.

5. The light fixtures should be of a medium size that fits the ambience of the space, because too big fixtures would out-stand and make the space look cluttered, while too small fixtures would not be efficient from a lighting perspective.

6. The space should follow a neutral colour palette that can be elevated with the use of gaudy and bold objects that make a statement in your space.

7. Try to get products that have a sleek and immaculate finish to give your space a smooth feel.

8. Finally, if you want your space to have a bit of prints, you can go for abstract prints that complement your overall decoration of the space.

There you have it! Getting a Modern outlook is easy however, it is difficult to strike in balance in most cases because decorators tend to overdo the space with decoration. So, it is important to select the pieces carefully, because they should reflect you as a person and make your space more personal for you.
