JAPANESE, SCANDI AND FUSION

Japanese interior design is a peaceful, simple and minimal style that has gained popularity due to its similarity with the Scandinavian interior design style that is also simple in nature but incorporates more clean and earthy tones in its space. Both styles can be appealing for someone who is looking for a serene and minimalist space because their characteristics are similar yet different in their own unique way due to their development in the either ends of the globe.

But what if you like the two styles so much (even more than your morning coffee), that you want both of them, without sacrificing one for the other one. Fear not, interior design is not there to disappoint you, because it is an art that has the solution for all such problems. It is just a matter of how you approach it. We have discussed this in detail in our ‘Mix, match and fuse’ articles, if you’d like to read them too.

Coming to the problem at hand, you can easily work with both Japanese and Scandinavian styles by fusing them to get a simple, beautiful and serene space with enticing earthy tones. This fusion is also known as the Japandi style (you know why, Japanese + Scandi). This fusion has also gained popularity due to its unique blend of western and eastern interior design styles whilst maintain the qualities of serenity and minimalism.

If you want to decorate your space with Japandi style in mind here are a few tips to help you get a satisfying output, that blends both style and practicality.

1. Use a natural colour palette as used mostly in Scandinavian style to create a serene environment. For example, cream tones with shades of beige and other earthy tones to create an interesting space.

2. Don’t get accessories that have too many edges, because you want to maintain a clean surrounding with sleek and simple lines. Try minimalist accessories to create a modern space.

3. It is important that the clutter is kept at a minimum so, please choose your decorative items carefully because you don’t want to make the space feel too congested.

4. Warm, cosy and welcoming should be the three words that come in your mind when you enter this space, so, try to add some carefully selected fabrics and textures that complement your ambience.

5. Most importantly, focus on the lighting because it is an essential feature of any interior design project. Don’t go for anything flashy, stick with something simple and soft that is not too hash or creates a strong environment.

Well, this is it. If you follow these guidelines, we are sure that you will have a satisfying space that will express a Japandi look that blends both style and practicality.
